Important for Hearts, Minds, Our Culture
I just watched this documentary that chronicles country singer Chely Wright's painful journey toward coming out. This is simply a wonderful documentary that I believe should be seen by teachers, by parents, especially by kids who might be just like Ms. Wright, as she tells what it was like for her as a child growing up in a small Kansas town, who went on to achieve her dream of becoming a singer and songwriter in the country music industry with great success, winning awards, having hit records.
It was a long and painful process for Ms. Wright, a well-known and loved star in country music, to decide to come out as gay, and this film follows her process so closely and intimately that it puts you right there in those most intimate moments, with the doubts, fears, sleepless nights, tears, and also shows her receiving help, counseling, and support as she writes her autobiography and records an album, both timed to be released when she makes her public announcement in May of...
Definitely a Must See
I watched this as a woman who went through some of the same struggles. I'm from a small town in Oklahoma, and I struggled with my own identity and a desire to be "normal". I felt like I was watching my own life. I ended up feeling happier and more inspired. I think this documentary should be seen by everyone. I think more people would be more accepting and loving if they understood that being gay is not a choice. I also think it will help others who may be struggling with their own identities. Such an inspiring story. I finally felt ok with my decision to come out, at home and at work. I finally quit hiding things. If others can talk about their spouses or partners at work, why can't I?
Bravo!
This film was incredible. I was in tears more than once. She tells her story... a story that needed to be told. Both for her, and the country music world, and beyond. I purchased her latest album right after it came out and I listened to it from beginning to end and was moved beyond words. This film, her story, is exactly what people need to experience. It takes seeing the pain, the heartache, the loss, and the fear, in a real person to realize that the culture of our society needs to change. Chely is a REAL person and her story, as well as her passion and the direction she is taking her life, is to be commended. Each step she takes, in her music, her book, as well as this film, WILL make a difference.
Chely has done and has the ability to do what I would like to do, but don't have the fame, the reach, or the presence that she does. The message she has to share is immensely important.
Bravo Chely. Bravo.
